What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectables we use to help address skin concerns and signs of aging, like:
- Fine lines and wrinkles on the face, neck, chest, and body
- Recessed scars
- Thin lips
- Contour concerns
- Lower eyelid shadows (also known as tear troughs)
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Lowered collagen production
We offer a few different types of dermal fillers, including Belotero, Juvederm (Ultra and Ultra Plus), and Radiesse. We also use hyperdiluted Radiesse to tighten and rejuvenate skin all over the body.
Each type of filler addresses specific cosmetic concerns, so Dr. Neal can recommend the ideal approach based on your needs.
Boosting Collagen & Elastin
All Over
You’ve probably heard plenty about how important collagen—a protein that provides strength and support throughout the body—is to looking youthful. As we live our lives, our bodies produce less collagen and the collagen we do produce is lower-quality.
Some of that youthful look is also provided by elastin, which allows your skin to stretch and then return to form. Dr. Neal uses hyperdiluted Radiesse to treat signs of aging all over the body. This procedure boosts your body’s natural collagen and elastic production, tightening skin on the neck, chest area, thighs and knees, arms and elbows, and buttocks.
What to Expect
from Dermal Fillers
It’s important to know that dermal fillers aren’t the same as Botox. Though they can treat the same cosmetic issues, they do so differently. Botox works by freezing certain muscle groups, while dermal fillers actually “fill in” wrinkles and enhance the volume of your appearance.
Researchers also believe that dermal fillers can provide longer-lasting results than Botox, but we’ll be happy to recommend the proper treatment when you visit us for a consultation.
Discussing the Treatment & Your Goals
In a consultation, Dr. Neal will discuss what features you’d like to address and determine which type of dermal filler may be best for you.
Certain dermal fillers are best used in different areas of the face and for different concerns. We’ll make sure you fully understand your treatment during your consultation.
The Treatment
Before we start the treatment, we’ll clean your face thoroughly and apply a local anesthetic to the injection areas to help minimize any discomfort you might experience. We may also place markers on your face to help guide filler placement.
We then inject your dermal filler into various treatment areas. Depending on what we’re addressing, the entire process may take about 15 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
Recovery & Results
You can go back to your regular activities immediately after your treatment, but we may recommend taking a break from vigorous physical activity for a few days.
A bit of mild redness, swelling, and tenderness is normal directly following your treatment and typically fades in a few days.
You’ll likely notice results within a few days, and these effects can last for a few months to a few years, depending on the type of dermal filler you use and the issues we address.
Dr. Neal can let you know exactly what to expect during your appointment. She’ll also advise on when your next recommended appointment is.
